This took place in Michigan. Around the end of the 1980's. My children and I were living in a very nice, three bedroom mobile home. It was summer time and very hot outside. We didn't have any air conditioner as I couldn't afford to pay for one, nor the high electric bills that would go with it. As I was a single mom raising children on my own.
For days the temperature in July that year was up in the 100's as being in Michigan that is pretty hot for us. Our weather is usually not that hot in the summer time. That year not only was it hot but it was a dry summer, with very little rain fall at all.
I sat in the house with a fan on to try and to keep cooler, as it was far better in the house then outside. I said "I sure wish it would snow, at least it would be nice and cold and not so hot as it is now".
My kids and the other kids that gathered at our house (they said it was the coolest home in the area) were outside near my trailer playing. My sons ran into the house and said "Mommie, Mommie you got to see this, it's snowing outside..." I said "right honey its hot outside, it's July not winter time". But "Mommie, Mommie it's really snowing at the end of our trailer". So I get up and decided since they are excited about something I would go and see what it was.
I couldn't believe my eyes. At the end of our trailer it had been snowing for some time and the ground was all white and it was like a 4' square that snow was coming down from the sky. I am in my shorts, bare feet. I went to that area where not only kids were bunched up in, but other adults trying to get in. I stepped in the snow, it was really snow, I bent down and got some in my hand and actually made a snowball. It felt good in my hand. And in this little area where it was snowing was at least 20 to 30 degrees cooler then it was, when I stepped out of the little square area.
I looked up and the snow fell on my face, it cooled me off. Thank you, thank you, I kept saying for the snow, that I had just wished for. But it was July it should not be snowing in July. This snow kept falling down for I would say about ten minutes while I was there, and not sure how long before my kids came in to tell me it was snowing.
After the snow stopped coming down. For a little while maybe about twenty minutes, it still felt cooler in that end of the trailer. The snow on the ground was still there with people walking barefoot in it, one could see little foot prints and larger foot prints in the snow. As the air warmed up the snow melted. Only left a small wet spot for a short time, where the snow was that came down. But the heat dried it up quite quickly.
It took me by surprise so I didn't take a picture of this, wish I would have. My neighbors that lived around me, and my kids, we talked about that little snow storm for years while we lived in this trailer park.
When I moved from that trailer park, to my home in the country, I was driving home, it was snowing so hard I couldn't see. I said "It sure be nice if it stop snowing a bit so I can see to get home safely."
Right in front of my eyes I could see and when I looked into my rear view mirror as I passed others sitting on the side of the road, I noticed it was snowing really hard, but I could see just fine ahead of me. I made it home, once I got out of my car I couldn't hardly see to get into the house. Yes I made it home in that blinding snow storm where as, just minutes before I couldn't see far enough ahead to drive.
