It took less than a few seconds, but it changed my life forever. I tied the rope around my neck and leapt from my tree house. I was under the illusion that the best way to solve my problems was to end my existence on this planet. Not very smart... even for a 12 year old.
I was falling to the ground when suddenly, I felt a fierce tug on my neck. There was a flash of white light... then nothing. A void in the universe is what it seemed like. It was as if I blinked and I found myself on a sandy beach; facing what seemed to be an ocean of fire. The heat from the ocean was so overwhelming that I wanted to turn away. The only problem was I could do no more than move my eyes. The rest of my body was in an extreme state of irony... frozen right in front of an inferno.
Out of the corner of my eye I can spot a figure walking behind this seemingly endless line of people on either side of me. I can see that as this person looks upon the people in line...they disappear. I realize that all he or she has to is look at me and I can leave this place... between Heaven and Hell it seemed.
But the man passed me by. I was doomed to go into the fire forever. He was getting farther and farther from me. I tried to call out to him, but I couldn't speak. I just stood there, helpless, realizing that what I did was the reason I was there. I was such an idiot thinking that what I did would actually help my mother. I knew then that this was the worst thing I could have done.
With my last ounce of energy I said with my heart, "Mom...please forgive me." The man was just about out of sight when he stopped. I felt him stop...his energy turning toward me...and I opened my eyes. I was now looking up at the very tree I jumped from. I had no idea how long I was unconscious, just that I was happy to be alive. Happy to be able to continue my existence.
