I had just moved in with my boyfriend, and there was a beautiful silver ring I bought him with my first wage packet, to mark the occasion. When I gave it to him, he promised me he would wear it everyday. And, he had, until this one day.
He had taken it off to do the washing up, he said he didn't want to ruin it (how water could damage a ring, I have no idea) and he had placed it on our kitchen table. We got talking with each other, and he totally forgot he had taken it off. We both went upstairs to bed, and he still didn't have his ring on.
The next morning we had both slept in, so he had to dash straight out of the house, neither of us even gave the ring a second thought.
I didn't have to leave the house for a few more hours, so I thought I would get some cleaning done. I started to dust the table, and I saw the ring lying there. So, I walked off to ring my other half, and told him he had left it behind (that's just the kind of person I am, I guess. Any excuse to talk to him!)
Well, he told me I was being silly, and that I didn't need to make excuses to speak to him, and I told him it wasn't really an excuse, and he had really left it behind. Then, he told me I really was being silly, as he had done nothing of the sort, and he was looking at it while he was speaking to me. So, I turned back to the table, and lo and behold, it had just... Gone.
I know I saw that ring on the table, I know I looked twice and definitely saw it. Can anyone tell me what happened, it's been driving me crazy!
