I keep dreaming that I wake up and there's someone in the room, usually at the foot of my bed. I try to scream and usually wake up, with my heart pounding so hard that it physically hurts. These are the most realistic dreams I've ever had, and they're happening more often. I don't think I even believe in this stuff, but it's happening, and it's freaking me out, and I just want it to stop. Does anyone have advice on how to stop this?

My girlfriend has these symptoms as well as my friend that's a girl. I find it scary and can't really put myself in their shoes, it's just so foreign to me. My girl says she can't move or speak, tries to yell to me, and sees a dark figure in the corner that is demon like... My friend that's a girl says she feels like shes being shocked, can't move, and sees a tall, demon figure with a top hat on, which seems to be shocking her until it hurts very badly. She says after she comes to, the electricity in her dorm room doesn't work, like the lamp or tv... She is afraid to fall asleep without the tv already on until this day

ive had the same thing for a while now. Some people told me that it was a demon but I don't know what to believe. Although mine is a bit different, I do get a lot of sleep, but I get a really bad feeling that someone is watching me, and I can't do anything, not even move a finger and I wake up screaming and gasping for air. When I do open my eyes I see a dark shadow standing next to me by the bed and sometimes I see a demonic face. I know it sounds crazy but I'm just saying what happens to me.

I've had a few experiences myself. One was at a young age (12-13 Years old) where I woke up felt like I was being held down and not being able to speak. After I came out of it first thing that I thought of was bad spirits. Wee second time it happened I was about 20. This time it was different than the first. I woke up by repeatedly being shaken. One again not being able to move or speak. After that time I was kind of scared to fall back asleep.

Yea I basically have been getting sleep paralysis for a few years now. Did you know you can actually talk to whatever is doing this? Sometimes it can even respond to you. I know it sounds crazy, but you all seem to be having the exact same thing. Any way I stopped seeing hallucinations ever since I stopped trying to open my eyes, but voices and paralysis still happens.

I also get this a few times a year. And will always see something when its happening, just last night it happened and I saw a rotting face staring me straight in the eyes lying next to me in bed. I have also previously seen an angel, a ghost and heard other random things. Like an evil voice that sounds like its comming from the devil himself.

Best way to get back to sleep after it happens, like serenity said is turn the radio or tv on.

Hi all,

I pretty much the same symtoms but I'm usually able to wiggle legs. However if I stop then I'll be totally frozen. Most cases my face is in my pillow almost to the point where I can sufficate. I've noticed on one occasion where I saw myself heading out my bed room window. I was still lying in bed but I saw my figure looking at the window and then it glanced at me. It was pretty scary to tell you the truth. This happened about three months ago. And I still suffer from this. It's been about a decade. I'm now 23.

The first time I experienced this was when I was around 12 or 13. I felt a rush of an electrical feeling that paralyzed my whole body... Particularly my brain. I could see my surroundings. And I have had several more same episodes since then... And one last night. Last night was different. This time I saw a face in the air vent above me. Eyes in particular. I was very frightened. I woke up and turned my radio on low. For some reason... Everytime I turn a tv or radio on after to try and go back to sleep,...it works. If I don't,...I fall back into paralysis.

I have experienced most of what you have but I think it has something to do with lack of sleep, stress and the postion you are sleeping. I say this because my first ASP experience was when I was 20 years old. At this time I got very little sleep and stayed up all the time not getting the proper amount of sleep. So the first time it happened I decided since it was 05:00 a.m. And I was staying at my ex-girlfriends house and so that her parents would think I arrived early that morning to pick her up instead of actually staying there the whole night. So I went out and slept in my car in the upright position and that's when it happened... I was asleep but yet could not wake up or move anything and then I began to panic and my heartbeat raced and then after a minute or two I woke up. Since then I get it at least once a month and usually around times that I get very little sleep or really stressed. It's very scary until this day though because like others have said your aware what's going on around you but your paralized. Recently I have been able to get enough strength to move my arms but its a long process and then I fall back into being paralized. Iv'e tried screaming to my wife but my mouth will not move but I can move my tounge to whisper help me or say my wifes name to get her attention but it never works. It just happened to me last night I was up with very little sleep sitting in the upright position at the table watching television and crossed my arms and shut my eyes for a second during commercial next thing I knew I was in this paralized state again but this time I wanted to explore the dream and so I moved my arm very slowly and I knew that there was a cup on the table that I was drinking so I decided to put my hand in the water that I was drinking to wake myself up I felt my my hand in a cup of water at room temerature and it worked and I awoke from the dream and picked up the cup to find that it was empty with no water but I really felt and seen water in my dream.

It started at 13 years old for me. I'm 15 right now and I already stop having these sleep problems. When you get these feeling you feel like your about to wake up to start your normal day, but suddenly when you try to get up you can't move a muscle in your body. I look at my room and say that's strange and my girlfriend right next to me couldn't hear me at all, and she was already awake watching t.v. I was going crazy because my mind was already awake but my body was still asleep. It feels like something is holding you down not leting you get up, move, or speak. The only thing you can do is see evrything normally and breath. I usually break out of it by holding my breath until I start gasping for air then I wake up.

Hello, I always felt as if no one would understand me, and finally I found people that have seen and felt what I have in these dreams or stages. I think I stopped having these stages in the past few months, but when I first started to have these I lived with my step-mother and father at the time, I must have been around 18/19years old, I'd know when I was entering this stage, and I'd start right away to figure out how to waken myself up, I'd hummm so that people could maybe hear me, or try to move my fingers and toes but that was hard, very hard to do, I'd start to see black and white Dots, I can feel everything, It seems like I could see through my eyelids and I new where everything was at, the door, the lamp, the color of the walls, the closet, it was so visual, but I also remember seeing a DARK figure, I man or something, next to my bed. God I felt terror, and I kept getting these stages threw out my life, I don't see the dark figure anymore.

i thought I was the only one. I have been having these dreams since I was a child. Every person that has died in my family I have dreams about. Last night I had another dream of these shadow people holding me down. Its getting to the point where I saw this vivid white light and my eyes were rolling into the back of my head. There were three of them holding me down chanting some language I couldn't understand. I started praying and telling them I believe in god and leave me alone. I have only started doing that these last three times. And the shadow people are getting worse. They take my body and and spin me around. What is happening?

As well as just having a weird feel to my life, kind of hard to explain. I wonder if any of these people experience stuff like that or what their history is with weird/mystical stuff. I don't know! Its pretty crazy stuff, good luck to all of you

sorry about the three posts, for some reason it wouldn't let me post the whole thing? Had to break it in three

Its so weird I know exactly what you all are talking about (except the colors/people, maybe I missed that, I wasn't really looking for details, just a way out of it).

So anyway, I fell back asleep because I just wanted this thing to end, but I woke up again with the same problem. Moved my feet around, and the more I moved the more I came out of it. But I was still really tired so I fell back asleep and this happened two more times before I finally got up and looked it up. I figured I'd type into google "woke up and couldn't move" and I'd find some crazy diagnosis and get scared like I do everytime something weird happens to my body (but turns out to be nothing) and after I found some out of body experience sites I found this.

i don't remember when this was, a week ago maybe, that this happened to me for the first time. It was just like everyone else says, you wake up and you can't move at all, and then it goes away after a couple minutes. Just now (about 20 minutes ago) I was sleeping in my bed and I woke up. I looked over at my girlfriend and everything seemed normal but when I went to move it was like I had no control over my arms. I tried to say "baby" but it came out really quiet. So I went around trying to move all the limbs in my body when I discovered I could only my feet (?).

wow! I was just laying down getting ready for bed when I started thinking about what had happened to me about 6 years ago. I thought I search it online just for the heck of it but I didn't think I would find others with similar experiences.

i remember I woke up in the middle of the night and I was surrounded by different colors of light. Seeing the light scared me so I tried to sit up but I couldn't, my body was frozen still, like I was paralyzed. I remember telling myself "don't freak out" but the more I tried to move the more scared I got. I tried to yell out for my parents and nothing came out of my mouth. I even tried to call my dogs name, who was sleeping right next to my bed, and still nothing came out. This lasted for a couple of minutes and then it just stopped. I was too scared to get out of bed or to call for my parents so I just laid in bed and prayed. I've never heard of this happening to anyone else before. About 4 months prior to this my grandmother had passed away. I'm not sure if that has any connection to what happened to me... That was the only time it has happened.

This all seems very scary to me. When this happens to me, I'm awake, but I can't move or speak. I can hear people talking around me and I can even sometimes see things moving. I panic, I can't wake up. I feel like something very bad is going to happen to me. I try to scream out for help, but nothing comes out. I even remember this happening to me when I was a very young child. My freshmen year of college I remember lying in my bed, awake, but papralyzed and then suddenly my dead cousin appeared and sat beside me, but it seemed like he was there to tell me that everything was going to be okay. Last night at three in the morning, I awoke, once again paralyzed. My boyfriend way lying beside me. I kept trying to reach out and scream for him, but I couldn't make him wake up. I could hear four or five people around me talking and laughing. I could hear children playing. Everyone was so happy and it made me feel better. I finally went back to sleep. And then around 4 in the morning my boyfriend started talking in his sleep. He sat straight up, looked at me and said "did anybody see you?" And then he layed back down. I'm not sure if this is something I should be concerned about or if this is something that I should embrace. Maybe I have some sort of medical condition. This only happens once every blue moon, but when it does happen, I'm scared for days.

My first time, a simalar thing had happened. I came home from school and I had fallen asleep in my bed, well I felt like I was sleeping but my mind was wide awake. My body bacame paralyzed and I couldn't move, yet I was sleeping and knew I was and tryed to wake up and I couldnt. So I slowly tried to move my arm, but I saw my spirit hand and arm moving upwards and my phsysical arm still laying there. I thought I was possessed when I snapped out of it, I gasped for air. Luckily, I was doing a research paper for english class at the same time on astral projection. What I fould out that it is scientifically proven that you
can experience these things. When you first start the process they say your soul and phsycical body is attached by an umbilical cord, and the more you practice this more your cord stretches and your able to move around. Its really interesting, you should look it up.
It does happen. It also talks about the diffrent dimensions this world is made up off and that can explain sometimes the diffrent colors you see and the voices you hear. Good Luck

I had a very bizarre "dream" last night. I was sleeping and I kept hearing a voice saying something over and over again right in my ear. When I finally realized that I needed to listen to it, I tried to concentrate on what it was saying and it stopped...then, I realized I was wide awake. Like by waking up I had somehow made it impossible to hear it.? Does that sound crazy or what? Has anyone had that experience before?

I have the same experiences. Its very scary. We need a proffessional to help us get some type of explanation as to why this is happening. One time this happened to me I was imagining that I was being possessed by someone who I knew was deceased. I couldn't do anything about it. It was so scary. I also imagined that there was a cat sitting right next to me and when I woke up, there was no cat in the room and the door was locked. Its like dreaming but with your eyes open and no matter how hard you try to wake up you cant. In order to come out of it (after I stop panicing and calm myself down) I have to close my eyes and pretend like I am going to fall back asleep. I then eventually am able to wake up and move and talk again.

I have similar sleep paralysis esperiences. I can be anywhere. On the couch, in bed, in a car... And all of a sudden I can't move. I still see the things going on around me. I feel like I can't even breath. It's very scary and then finally if I try hard enough and barely move any part of my body I can come out of it. My heart is always racing... WHAT IS THIS?

wow I can't believe I found this page with people talking about the same experience that I had.

since I was 15 (that I remember) I would go to sleep and I would wake up and I couldn't move and see everything as it is (the room)...the first time it happened I got scared because I would feel that someone (a man) would stare at me but of course I didn't wanna look at him .

after summer06 I would experience the same but constantly, it happened so many times that I got used to it and I kind of got to control it , I would wake up if I want to by just closing my eyes really hard and concentrate .
it got kind of creepy when I would wake up ,couldnt move and then suddenly felt like someone pushed me up like wanting me to sit in my bed .thats when my body kind of reacts and tries not to but some force in my body would make me sit in my bed or it move my body , I would hear loud loud sounds like music .

in the beginning of this year I woke up and again I coulnt move and suddenly my body started to float that's when my hands reacted and try to grab the sides of my bed then I fell I woke up , then again I guess my "dreams" developed that I could hear a voice talkin to me , but again I couldn't move and that voice would tell me that it would get into my body and I would tell them to leave me alone.
I wished there could be some kind of explanation because some people that I told about this dreams think I'm just hallucinating or even crazy ha ...i know there is something , and I actually like having these dreams , now I don't have them a lot but I still have them and I believe there is something .

thanks for taking your time reading this . It may not make sense ... Or maybe I don't know how to explain but I hope you like my story and someone can tell me what it means ... Bye ...

I get it a lot actually. One night I tried waking up and it felt like I could feel my brain waves tingle or something. Like some form of energy holding me down. The room is also erie green as if a green light is dimmed in the dark. One time there was a woman talking to me, sitting right next to my bed. She seemed very friendly and it felt like she was trying to tell me something. I feel really stupid writing this but it's the truth. I couldn't say anything, nor could I move. I made myself believe that is was a dream... The last time it happened it seemed somebody was walking out of my room... This had to be the scariest of all times it happened. I could actually feel a presence like atmosphere. After I dozed off that night my mind was painting these images of things I can't explain. Like ghost inside of my mind which kept waking me up. Even when I awake I look around and things just look weird. Well I do feel a lot better knowing others have similiar experiences.

Hey, so I'm having the same thing where I lay down and then I open my eyes and I'm in the same enviroment that I was laying in. I cannot move at all. I would just like to share my experiences. The first time this happened to me was last summer (2006) I was watching some movies with my brother it was about 6 in the morning so I decided it was about time to sleep. I layed next to my brothers. Then all of a sudden I opened my eyes and I'm in the exact spot where I was laying down. I could see both of my brothers. All I could do is stare at him. I tried saying his name but all that came out is . . . . I got scared and started breathing hard. Then at the start of 2007 I had three in three nights. One each night. And one of the nights I watched The Ring so I was really scared and I couldn't move when I was asleep. Today, I woke up late and got to school. I was still feeling tired and we had extended classes so I just fell asleep and I opened my eyes I knew what was going on so I wasn't scared. I sat there calmly waiting for my parylisis to go away. So I thought it was gone so I went to move my arms so I could get up. All of a sudden I felt all my muscles get really tight and I got scared cause that has never happened to me while I while I couldn't move and I could feel myself trying to move my head up really hard. After about a minute it was gone and I just went back to sleep. But I really wanna know what this is.

I get stomach aches before things happen, usually bad things like one time I had a bad stomache ache and a lady from my church had a stroke, and the next day I learned that my Aunt had a stroke - and they had the same name. I don't know what's going to happen, or have any details whatsoever. Sometimes they happen to people I know, and sometimes it's in the news, like VA Tech... Has anyone ever had this? I also have good things, funny things, like one day I was driving with my daughter in the car and I could hear her music blaring from her MP3 player and I said "why don't the radio stations around here play great music, like "Smooth" by Santana. I turned on the radio, the anouncer announced it and on it played! My kids always get a kick out of those, but I can't predict them. But the stomache aches really bother me, I never know where it's coming from.

I was reading the message above
and I can really relate to it. When I was a little kid maybe about five or six years old. I'd have dreams where I'd wake up and I couldn't move. During these dreams as strange as they sound I'd see figures in my room. I'd hear voices telling me Not to be afraid and I wasn't. I remember seeing a video screen infront of me and a picture of my ear on it. It would a light much like a laser going into my ear. Then when the dream was overwith, I'd wake up, I could move and I'd usually have a nosebleed. I woke up with many nosebleeds as a kid. I'd call to my Parents and my Mom would sit up with until the nosebleed was over with and tell me it was just a nightmare. Only I didn't believe her. I still don't believe her for two reasons. I still have dreams like that today only more intense. For example right before Christmas I had a dream where I was in a Doctor's that was totally round and white inside. The people there wanted me to tast a drink and I did. They wanted to know what it tasted like and I told them it tasted like oranges. Then I woke up and I remembered the whole thing. That day my stomach ache and ached all day long. If these were just dreams why did I have a nosebleed afterward? Why do I remember what something tasted like in a dream? Why did I get sick the next day? Why is this happening to me? Does anybody know? I sure would like to know the answer. Does anybody have any answers?

That's all for now.

I just want to say that you are not by yourself with the dreams you have. And that I have the same paralyzing feeling you do. But the difference with mine are that I am usualy being attacted by something and get bit. I have had them from when I was in 3rd grade untill now, and I'm in 11th now. I don't fully understand it yet but I have had some experience because I get them almost every night. The way I stop it from happening is praying to God if you think he is real or not. Or, just move you body, you feel paralized but if you realy concentrate you CAN do it. You are just in another state of mind and you can move just like you can move in your dreams when you are dreaming regularly. But I do understand that it can get so intense that you can't think at all. My main problem is that I have some kind of dark skull screaming at me and I can't do anything. I also came here for a little help because I to don't fully understand It. I will be glad to give more info later when I come back to read. Also that Gnostic guy has a good idea as crazy as it may seem.

I am actually looking for someone that could help me with astral projection... Not really in being there... More to meet up with them. Ha-ha Because I would like to send a message along, so if anyone is intrested please let me know. Though I do not really get sleep paralysis... One because I never sleep and two because I can be in astral so much that I can function in astral while doing homework, or working or hanging out with friends, I have learned to be two places at once or many haha. Though there are always a price to pay for what places you travel and I always have bad headaches but it's just another place to see.

I've had these experiences before in the past, which has only happened in my room... In london >.<
I try to wake up but I am stuck in a time where I can't move or open my eyes I just lay there, and I can see my room like you've stated... But can't move until, I started struggling to move this is where my brain starts hurting like I have some bad headache going on and it feels as though my brain will explode...

first time I had it was when I was in college about 17 years old
I was in bed sleeping and I dreamt about me being in an empty room, 1 door leading to my mind another door for someone to come in... And seriously I felt like if any ghost or spirits entered my mind then, they would of took other my body... Now someone explain to me that's so messed up lol
and occasionally I get it when I have a dream and all of sudden it turns into a nightmare, maybe I am picking of bad spirits in the atmosphere telling me something and I don't wanna listen, I am to afraid about facing them.

thanx for your time reading this, doesn't make that much sense. Me and my g/f have woken up from some dream involving a the same ghost but of the other person being the ghost O.o

Sleep paralysis is when your physical body is asleep and your mind is still aware. This is the time when you can leave your physical by focusing on your astral body. I had similar experiences when I was young, always waking up paralyzed and hallucinating. A couple years later found it was the 'crossover point' of astral projection. Next time you feel that you should focus on leaving your body. First astral experiences may be frightening because it is 'the unknown' that scares people. In the astral plane, you can learn much about yourself even talk to your divine parents, your guides, and other ascended beings, as crazy it it may sound...
Theoretically, the human mind exists in seven dimensions, our physical bodies exist in the first 3, then the fourth is time, the 5th is the astral, followed by 6th and 7th which are 'the domain of the Divine'.

~Gnostic
