To be honest, there is no way to avoid it. You can't control your nerves, it just happens. Do you notice that things break due to other emotions as well such as sadness etc?
Does thing you are using at the time tend to break due to your emotions? Your washing machine broke, were you bored and/or annoyed about having to do the washing?
Everytime things break, make a note of how you are feeling when they break, and think about things that have happened in the immediate past that could have caused these emotions. That could help control your mood if you just think of these happenings as insignificant, then you could set them aside and save yourself some money because things won't break 😆 !
