OOBE?

I began meditating about 5 years ago after a very traumatic month. It was December and I lost my grandfather, my nephew, and found out I was pregnant with my third child within 3 weeks of each other. I began having sleep paralysis and strange dreams of communicating with both of my recently deceased relatives, in which they would recognize that they had passed and were inquiring about the emotional health of the living family.

Around the same time my 2 year old daughter (who has complex partial epilepsy) began to tell me of similar dreams, in which she would talk to my grandfather whom she had never met... In awake life. So I began to meditate because I found that in the hypnagogic state I would experience very pleasant hallucinations and was able to feel some sort of relief from everyday stress. As usual routine, two nights ago I lay down and start my deep breathing/meditation.

I'm not very aware of the amount of time involved because obviously I wasn't paying attention to the time, but the first half of the meditation was quite ordinary. It was probably at least 45 minutes into the meditation when I started to experience very bizarre and interesting sensations.

At first I couldn't move my legs, it was difficult for my to be aware of their existence. This feeling spread throughout my body. I'm not really sure how to explain this, but for example... I knew that I had hands, but I had no idea where their placement was relative to the rest of my body. I thought this to be strange, but interesting and I wanted to continue to experience whatever this was. Almost as if was natural to explore this feeling.

Then I began experiencing a VERY strange sensation running through my body. It felt like the chills, only electrified in some way. The first round of chills passed over quickly. I enjoyed the feeling and wanted to experience this again, so I imagined my lover kissing my neck. It worked! Another round came, only this this more intense.

At this point I became unaware of everything... My breathing, my body, my thoughts. What happened next was insane. My entire body was engulfed by a feeling of intense vibrations. The only way I can describe this feeling is like a million orgasms at once consuming me. This lasted for what I would perceive to be less than 4 seconds. When this had passed I became aware of a very deep breath, followed by a feeling of pure ecstasy. No worries, thoughts, only pure nothing. It was amazing.

I turned my head to the right (I was lying on my back), and rolled out of bed. I walked through my room, toward my computer for whatever reason. I became aware that the room was very light and this was unusual considering I had laid in pure dark to meditate. I turned toward the bed and saw myself lying there. I was shocked, obviously... And immediately came out of this state. I was in such awe I just laid there for a moment looking at the ceiling.

I think I projected. I know that walking around my room is far from a deep spiritual astral projection, but for me this was a truly enlightening experience. I don't know a lot about projection or OOBE's so I would appreciate any feedback. Does this sound like an projection? Is I common? Has anybody else experienced this?

p.s. This was definitely NOT a dream. I'm a lucid dreamer and know I was definitely in some sort of non usual sleep state.

Thank you! :)

I just wanted to indicate that yes, it was and OBE. From your descrption, it seems that you went to another dimension, called the Causal plane, which is more likely. That Dimension is above the Astral plane, when you go there you feel this ultimite happiness and see bright light, that's what I think, but that ofcourse if your mind was silent... Great feeling isn't it?;)

Hi Pinkbabe63 I think you should look on google cause they have all different kinds of meditation exercises. Also Some people get a special CD which is used for mediation its music you can listen to and it helps to relax you. I'm going to get some and but my mum one as well. I think also you should buy books about psychic abilities and that which will help you.

duraniee - I had to think about this a little. I'm afraid some person will make up some silly thing, post it, and wait for us to comment. I'm careful. But, I don't feel that. I was scared silly too my first long trip. I had the fear that I wouldn't find my body or that I was dead. That was a long time ago. It doesn't happen - we are attached. When it is time to go that last time, I don't think it will be like this at all. I had one of those two, with the birth of my second child. A death experience is different. This a fun, teaching, neat thing for the most part, not a hundred and ten percent. Nothing ever is.

I found some similarities between these comments and my experience once. I had been sick for some weeks and was tired of it. I decided to take a nap and I before I did that I asked "why am I sick all the time?". Then I fell asleep and dreamed about my dog that had passed away years ago. Then I felt super tired and that my feet didn't move at all. My brother tried to wake me up but couldn't. I saw a man and kissed him. We kind of rolled together and suddenly everything changed. I was in space going round at a very high speed. My breathing was heavy and I felt the shaking. I was so aware of everything, like it wasn't a dream at all. I imprinted every action on my mind and someone/something showed me three pictures which came from a fog. The last one of them made me cry. I realised that I wasn't in my body and got scared if I wasn't able to get back at all. I "rolled on another side" and felt that I was pushed back so hard. My heart was pumping like hell and I felt such a gratitude and shock over the experience and that last picture that I just cried...
I have had vivid dreams but that wasn't one of those.

Ambi - I don't remember my first OBE's. I remember vague images and wind, strong wind. What scared me was the strong wind and long voyages, trips, to like planes about to crash that did the next day or a few days later according to CNN. But, at the time, it was going a long distance, flying, and not understanding that scared me. Now that would be a short trip. At that time, I called it flying to myself. I had never heard the term astral projection or voyage. I thought that I might not find my body or that I was dying after one of them. I remember asking if that was happening but not getting an answer. In seconds, I was sucked back into my body, and breathing hard.

Mr. Martin...
It seems as hough the more I think about my experience the more questions come to mind. Why didn't my subconcious find this frightening? I felt so, so at peace. I've been reading on other peoples experiences and there is a lot of fear involved in many cases. Why wouldn't I have experienced this?

Hello Mr. Martin. Thank you for bringing this experience to my attention by posting because you are discerning. I really missed remembering my first hooving and seeing myself stuff. We all want profound roots. It makes me a little sad honestly. I've thought about that for awhile. To me, trips, voyages, flying, are now as real as breakfast cereal. That's a little odd, but it is true. Perhaps those who experience it later know more because they know their roots. I hope so! Haha!

Hi Ambi - I was a little shocked when I read about your experience. I think that's why I wrote here. I've been waiting for someone to tell about their first. It was amazing. Sadly, I've done them a long while and can't remember mine. When I was very little, I had a Catholic babysitter, very devout who always crossed herself. She talked to me. I was 2 or 3 I think. I zoned on the Holy Cross and did it. My parents, Southern Baptists, made me stop and got a new babysitter. I always wanted to be nun but since I'm not Catholic, had a husband and family instead. I think young this leaving started for me. Well, OBE's, they are weird. I was recently told it wasn't flying, my term before I heard the official term Astral Projection/Voyages, but vibrating. I realized, at that time, that I knew that and had just been seeing fog, but knew it. I can be a know-it-all too much. It offended me some to have it explained. When we are too restrained, like with needy people who tend to keep us constrained, or we are too sad, I think that we need a break. I live in a gated community. Went to a "tea" and dozed three times. I was mortified. Tried to stay awake and act interested. Well, I can act, but not interested. You have an important job to do where you are. Everyone does. Recognize it and be glad. Let yourself go now and then, and I don't mean into the world of pretend because OBE's are not pretend. Astral voyages sound really scary. Think of these as just trips. My astral person, I think in Baptist God terms, told me, not so long ago, they were "trips..." They are real. My first scary ones, which is why I remember them, were about things that happened the next day and a few days later. We can't "dream" or "make-up" the future. Not if it's on CNN a day or a few days later. Now I just accept it, mostly, and understand it's a gift. It's complicated. I hope you aren't more confused. I am tooo long winded. I just don't know how to shorten my explanations.

Hi Ambi, I'm surprised there aren't more comments yet on your story, I thought it was extraordinary, so do keep us posted on any progress with additional stories. What you had was indeed an OBE, but I think it was also a bit more, due to your state of consciousness (what with your deep inward focus and your feelings of ecstasy and all... I'll have what she's having, hehe). There may be some deeper spiritual aspect to it than a mere detachment from your body.

Hi Ambi, welcome to the OBE Club. It is an exhilarating experience. I did my first OBE a couple of months ago. It was a work morning and I set my alarm for 7:00. I woke up before the alarm went off and lifted myself off the pillow. I turned around to see my baby and also saw myself still asleep. Needless to say, it scared me and I jumped right back in. I have been doing some reading on the subject and this site has been very helpful too. I have achieved a lot more. Tc and good luck ! 😁

Thank you both for the comments!
For whatever reason I wasn't frightened at all, only an intense sense of well being, like I knew subconciously where I was about to go.
Gwanwyn...
The only techinique I use is deep breathing and what I would call deep "un~focus". This happened absolutely by accident! I'm very excited though. Plan on trying again soon...didn't want to push it too soon though. I'll keep you up to date. Good Luck! I have faith that you can achieve this, and when you do it will absolutely change your life!

Yes sounds like you had an OOBE and sleep paralysis. The first time it happens usually one is frighten. I know the first time it happen to me at home I was. Althought I had one in my first story written called "Jesus held me in his arms" whic is in the spiritual experiences in this site.
But I do believe since you seen your own body that you did indeed have an OOBE.

Wow, that's an amazing story! Could you please tell what meditation technique you use? I'd like to be able to do this too!
Btw, I think you HAD a real OOBE.
