Connecting To My Abilities

I'm 17 years old and have recently discovered I might be able to sense energies or connect to spirits. I am not really sure what you would call it. But anyways in a class we were told to talk about our expierence with the supernatural. I mentioned about how ever since I was little I would talk to my father who passed away when I was 7 months old. I continued to explain other encounters I'l have had with orbs and being aware of energeties around me. After class my teacher pulled me aside and told me that he has been gifted with connecting to those who have passed. He then explained that ever since the first day of class he felt a strong energy with me and that he thinks I could be gifted as well. I continued to explain to him that ever since I was little I have always felt as if I can feel or sense the energies or presence of other spirits when they are around me. I can tell when it is my father, or whether the spirit is male or female. I strongly believe that spirits are trying to communicate with me and make themselves known. But now I am looking for help to control my abilities. I do not know who to ask or what to do to learn about my gift. I just wanted to know if anyone can give me advice on what to do since I am barely finding out about these abilities. I want to be able to communicate with spirits effectively. I would greatly appreciate any help and/or advice I receive. I just need advice on where to start and steps to take to help me develop and control my gift. Thank you.
