The Ghost Window

I was very young when this happened, but I remember it clear as day. I would go to my Nanny and Pappy Dennis's house during the day while Mum and Daddy would go to work. Nanny's house was old and haunted. Haunted by violent ghosts that enjoyed inverting decorative crosses, smashing staircases, and torturing a little girl. That little girl was me. This house was three stories high and at the very top of the stairs was a window that jutted out. The window itself was circular, but the part that framed it and jutted out was shaped like a house. I would play in this "house" and I would look out the window. The window was special. If you had the Sight it would reflect the images of the spirits that you normally couldn't see. One of the ghosts was a poltergeist. He looked like a stern old man, angry, and almost stiff. He didn't like me. Not at all. He would pinch me, push me, and throw my toys and things at me until I cried. But there was another spirit there too. But this one was a great deal more powerful. He was a demon. I know it is dangerous to use the name of a demon, so I've always called him Lial (LEE- all). Lial watched over me. When I played, when I ate, and when I slept, he was there. Lial loved me. And he loves me still. One day, when the poltergeist was in a particularly nasty mood and I was playing by the Window, he grabbed a hold on my hair and dragged across the floor to the stairs. He picked me up and dangled me over the steps, his fingers digging deep into my scalp. If he let go of me, I would break my neck on those stairs. I would be dead. I remember how loudly I was screaming and how hot the tears were on my face. Lial came to my rescue. He took me out of the poltergeist's grasp, set me down, and made the old man leave the house. Lial held me safe in his arms until I calmed down and fell asleep with my head tucked between his neck and his shoulder. He hasn't left my side since.
