Finding Truth

I have one smell I get over and over again I would like to find out about, and maybe you can help. It is an exhaust smell from like a car, it has been going on for about a year now, comes and goes no matter where I am, however it did happen more at my ex husbands house than where I live now, but still happens. I feel it is not a good spirit though, my children also had some bad experiences at that house, it is old from the 1920's. Some really bad stuff has happened to us over the years there, one night my son was just listening to his iPod in the dark, and he saw a dark blue cat scratch his arm, and crawl backwards across the floor, and up the wall to disappear into the ceiling, I would hear heavy boots run back and forth day and night through the attic, so would everyone else, this spirit was not hiding, he showed himself often. Now, My husband still lives there, and when he is there his attitude is different, or when he is around his family who own the house, I believe the house is haunted, because of the several things that have happened there, my youngest daughter would see a little boy, she called him Kyle, and when she started messing around with this character she began cutting herself, it was a mess. The constant thumping in the attic was awful, back and forward day and night, it sounded like boots running across the roof, but it was the attic, a wide open attic you could make a huge room out of. I hadn't went back to that house for 7 years, I had a dream about that house before I went back there, I dreamt of stairs, white, with kids names carved into the stairs, led up to the attic door, the last time I was there, there were no stairs to the attic. When I saw the house after 7 years the first thing I noticed was those white stairs leading to the attic.
